The publication “Composition in Real Time: Anatomy of a Decision” aims to recreate the first hours that usually occupy the workshops led by the choreographer João Fiadeiro. It offers an illustrated and commented presentation of the different phases of the decision-making process generally associated with improvisation, i.e. the aftermath of an encounter with the unexpected.
João Fiadeiro belongs to the generation of Portuguese choreographers who appeared at the end of the 1980s and were at the origin of the New Portuguese Dance. He began to systematize his reflection and structure his research on Real Time Composition in the 1990s, which has since led him to give numerous lectures and lead courses and workshops in international schools and universities.
Marco Baleteros won the Book Design Award 2018, awarded by the Directorate General of Books, Archives and Libraries, for the design of this publication.
