This book in french was born out of the author’s love affair with the German choreographer Pina Bausch’s Kontakthof.

It is an essay on the three successive versions of the piece. The piece was first created in 1978 with  the dancers of the Tanztheater Wuppertal company. Pina Bausch then decided to revive it in 2000 with senior citizens aged ’65 and over’, and finally in 2008 with teenagers.

How is Pina Bausch’s artistic universe innovative? How does she construct the aesthetics of her Tanztheater? How are human relationships represented in Kontakthof?

Béatrice Wegnez’s essay takes us into the choreographer’s studio, following the rehearsals and performances of the three versions of the show, notably through interviews with some of the company’s dancers and collaborators.

This book, which aims to be accessible to theatre and dance lovers, whether they are well-informed or not, has no other purpose than to transmit a taste for the fascinating world of Pina Bausch, one of the essential choreographers of the 20th century.
